nitrogen dioxide in school children

چکیده
Objectives-To assess the distribution of personal exposures to nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in school children, and to investigate factors that might influence personal exposure. Methods-NO, exposures were assessed by use of passive diffusion tubes for 46 children aged 9-11 years, selected from two Southampton schools. The tubes were worn for seven days, and parallel measurements were made with static samplers in the child's kitchen, living room, classroom, and playground. Information about potential exposures was collected by questionnaire. Results-Personal exposures to NO2, averaged over seven days, ranged from 11 to 257 4ug/m3 (6 to 137 ppb) with a geometric mean of 36 ,uglm' (19 ppb). Exposures correlated with concentrations of NO2 recorded in the home, but the relation was far from exact. Factors associated with increased personal exposure included the use of gas appliances in the home, living with one or more smokers, and travel to school by means other than a car. However, together these variables only explained a small part of the variation in personal exposures. Conclusions-These findings reinforce the need for personal monitoring of exposure in studies investigating potential health effects ofNO2 in children. (Occup Environ Med 1996;53:200-203)

Snoring in primary school children and domestic environment: A Perth school based study
BACKGROUND The home is the predominant environment for exposure to many environmental irritants such as air pollutants and allergens. Exposure to common indoor irritants including volatile organic compounds, formaldehyde and nitrogen dioxide, may increase the risk of snoring for children. The aim of this study was to investigate domestic environmental factors associated with snoring in children...

متن کاملGIS-modeled indicators of traffic-related air pollutants and adverse pulmonary health among children in El Paso, Texas.
Investigators examined 5,654 children enrolled in the El Paso, Texas, public school district by questionnaire in 2001. Exposure measurements were first collected in the late fall of 1999. School-level and residence-level exposures to traffic-related air pollutants were estimated using a land use regression model. For 1,529 children with spirometry, overall geographic information system (GIS)-mo...
متن کاملEffects of air pollution on growth in schoolchildren.
The growth is considered a very sensitive indicator of the impact of environment of the health status of children. The aim of the study was to investigate whether air pollution is related to children's growth. The subjects were 1059 pupils, aged 7-11 years, living for more than ten years in the same home in the city of Nis (Serbia). Exposed group of children (N = 545) were attending the school ...
متن کاملClimate, traffic-related air pollutants, and asthma prevalence in middle-school children in taiwan.
This study compared the prevalence of asthma with climate and air pollutant data to determine the relationship between asthma prevalence and these factors. We conducted a nationwide survey of respiratory illness and symptoms in middle-school students in Taiwan. Lifetime prevalences of physician-diagnosed asthma and of typical symptoms of asthma were compared to air monitoring station data for t...
